BE A HIT : SCHOLARSHIPS
Hospitality Industry Trust (HIT) Scotland helps continuous development in the workplace.
To keep employees motivated and up to date in key skills, within the competitive world of hospitality, Michael Lennon, (assistant food and beverage manager at the Sheraton hotel, Edinburgh) spent three weeks at the international Jumeirah beach resort courtesy of HIT Scotland. The Scholarships recognise the need to continually update skills within the hospitality industry, enhance personal development and bring fresh ideas back to Scottish hospitality businesses to remain at the forefront of international innovations. Michael's experience allowed him to see first hand how a new tourism destination was developing, plus gain a full understanding of how different cultures worked towards a common goal of delivering excellent standards. He spent the time working in many of the operational areas of the resort and this enabled him to gain valuable knowledge that will give him the insight and confidence to get to the next level.
The limited Scholarships are available to all aspiring individuals within Scottish hospitality and the awards are presented at the annual Emerging talent conference, which takes place in February. The conference moves around the country and has taken place in Aviemore, Edinburgh, Glasgow and the venue for 2008 is the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena in Ratho.
Funds are raised by the industry, for the industry, at events such as the Edinburgh luncheon, 5th November 2007 at the Sheraton hotel, Edinburgh.
