Perth College gets HIT

8th January 2007

Tourism and hospitality students get HIT for £5500

Tourism and hospitality students at Perth College can apply for extra funding to help their studies, thanks to the handover today (Tuesday 19 December 2006, 10.15am) of an additional £5500 from the Hospitality Industry Trust (HIT) Scotland.

Successful applicants will be able to pay for childcare, textbooks, accommodation on residential trips and to finance study for extra qualifications.

This is the largest amount of bursary money that HIT Scotland has given to Perth College, according to HIT Scotland’s Chief Executive, David Cochrane, who continued,

“We are delighted to provide Perth College with this funding in recognition of its outstanding commitment to developing and supporting the emerging talent of the hospitality industry in Scotland."

“As a major charity for the hospitality and tourism industry, HIT Scotland aims to help committed students take their studies to a higher level.”

Perth College is delighted to play its part by offering a wide range of tourism and hospitality courses through part-time and full-time study, according to Programme Leader, Ian Gibb.

He explained, “With the current skills shortage in the tourism and hospitality industries, it’s vital that we encourage young people to take up careers in these exciting areas, and the HIT Scotland bursaries do just that.

“There are always plenty of jobs for well-trained people, and our courses provide an ideal springboard for successful careers or for going onto further study.”
