HIT Scotland has announced the Scholarships Programme for 2017 and we are keen to advertise the wide selection of Scholarships available. To that end we want to promote the benefits of the Scholarships and the opportunities they enable. Here's HIT Scholar Audrey Buckley's story.
I studied an HND in Hotel, Catering and Institutional Management at Queen Margaret College, a number of years ago. From then I moved into the industry working in Hotels, Bars and Branded Restaurants before moving to my current career as a Hospitality lecturer.
The industry is ever changing, so to ensure my teaching practices were reflecting current standards and that I was offering up to date information to my students, I applied for the Glion Capital Gains Scholarship. The scholarship allowed me to spend quality time with individuals working within the industry as well as fellow lecturers. Sharing good practice and running ideas past each other was invaluable. We also attended a number of workshops which allowed us to reflect on out current practices and look at situations form different view points.
The scholarship offered fantastic networking opportunities allowing me to be more connected with the industry and keep my teaching relevant to todays industry needs. Most of all, it reminded my why I love working in Hospitality and what a great career path is offers for the right people. The experience was excellent for my continued personal development and gave me inspiration to deliver more creative classes.
