HIT Live, Siobhan Jaffray, Reception Manager, The Chester Hotel

I started my career in hospitality at the age of 15 as a kitchen porter. I then worked my way up to waitressing. By the time I left school I had been well and truly bitten by the hospitality bug and decided that this was the industry I wanted to pursue my career in.
When I first heard about HIT Scotland I was working as a duty manager in a small hotel and the hotel owner encouraged me to apply for a scholarship.  To my delight I was successful and secured An Experience scholarship.
By the time it came round to my Scholarship I was working as a sales and events coordinator at The Chester Hotel.
For the Scholarship I was placed at the amazing Gleneagles Hotel where I worked in the events department for a week. Whilst there I oversaw one of their large annual events. It was an amazing experience to see how a well-established hotel like Gleneagles ran behind the scenes. The Chester Hotel had just opened and so it was a great opportunity to bring back ideas of how Gleneagles organised events and ran their hotel and it was reassuring that there were a lot of similarities to how the Chester did things.
I truly enjoyed my HIT scholarship. I learned so much and it has made my passion for the industry stronger.
I have successfully applie for a second HIT scholarship and I can't wait for my next HIT adventure.
If you would like to apply for a scholarship, the 2017 programme launches on Thursday 29th September. To find out more click here
