The Trustees support the strategic direction of the charity and provide a huge amount of time and commitment to ensure all activities carried out are in line with industry objectives.

The Duke of Roxburghe

HIT Patron, HIT Scotland

Sir Guy David Innes Ker, the 10th Duke of Roxburghe, as awarded to his family by Queen Anne in 1707.  To us at HIT Scotland he is not only ‘His Grace’ but is a respected businessman and landowner.  His Grace is very hands on in the running of his estate and is dedicated to ensuring it is self-sustaining and financially viable for future generations.

Peter Lederer CBE

HIT Patron, HIT Scotland

Peter Lederer joined Gleneagles in 1984 as General Manager, becoming Managing Director in 1987 and Chair in 2007. Previously he held a multitude of senior positions in multi-million enterprises with the Four Seasons hotel group and with Plaza Hotels. Prior to becoming a Patron of HIT Scotland, Peter was our Chair.  He is committed to improving quality, educational standards and training opportunities within the hospitality and tourism industries and was also chairman of VisitScotland from 2001-2010.

Peter is a highly respected leader in the hospitality and tourism industry and has also been awarded the prestigious Tourism Catey Award and Hotelier of the Year.  He was awarded an OBE for services to the industry and a CBE for services to Tourism in Scotland. He is also Chair, Saltire Foundation; a Director of Diageo Scotland and the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

Paddy Crerar

Chairman, HIT Scotland

Paddy Crerar has been involved in the Scottish hospitality industry for more than 30 years. Principally a hotelier Paddy’s first major role was as MD of British Trust Hotels which after 7 years of growth he led to successful sale in 2005. The Crerar Hotel Group with Paddy as CEO was also formed in 2005 - this included Crerar Hotels and a specialist management and consultancy company Crerar Management which focused on recovering asset underperformance. The Crerar Hotel Group also owns and operates www.easybreaks.com, marketing hotel bedrooms for over 400 hotel clients.

A Trustee of HIT Scotland since 2002 and Chair from April 2013, Paddy is a strong supporter of the hospitality industry with past and present roles including being a Director of Visit Scotland, Thistle Award steering group and judge and Chair of The Crerar Hotels Trust, a charity set up to distribute funds to good causes connected to the communities Crerar hotels operate within.

In addition to the hospitality industry Paddy holds a number of non-executive positions including Highlands and Islands Enterprise which is a board he is particularly honoured to serve as his family and roots are from Oban and the West Highlands. He, his wife Sheila and their three children live in East Lothian where they farm pedigree cattle, lambs and cereals.

Angela Vickers

Deputy Chair, HIT Scotland

Angela Vickers is Chief Executive of one of the UK’s leading independent 4-star hotel groups. Edinburgh based Apex Hotels, own and operate nine contemporary-styled, city centre hotels located in London, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee. 

Angela Vickers’ first involvement in HIT began in 2006 when she became a member of the Edinburgh HIT Lunch Committee. She has since provided great insight into the organisation and has contributed much to the success of HIT fundraising activities.

A qualified Chartered Accountant, Angela is also a valued member of the HIT Finance subcommittee.

Angela is committed to promoting careers within the hospitality industry and assisting those who work in it achieve their full potential. She is also a Board member of the International Leadership School and the Springboard Charity. Recognising the importance of continued professional development, Angela has recently completed a Masters degree in Hospitality Leadership.

Alyson Cawley

Trustee, HIT Scotland

Alyson is proud to have been a trustee since 2008 and brings to HIT a strong background in commercial retail catering and operational management. She has worked in a number of sectors within the hospitality industry; currently as Strategic Partnership Director with Compass Group UK. Alyson has held senior roles focused on change management, developing and building teams and long term client relationships. Coupled with her great enthusiasm for the industry her power as a team player and her passion for developing the best talent in the Scottish hospitality industry she has proved a valuable addition to our team.

Fergus Chambers FIH

Founding Trustee & Honorary Secretary

Fergus Chambers, an original founding Trustee of HIT, is an exceptional member of our team with a multitude of accolades including; a Catey, Cost Sector Education Award, a CIS Lifetime Excellence Award and he received a Lifetime Achievement presentation in the Educatering Awards.

He spent most of his working life in the Public Sector as Executive Director of Glasgow City Council and as Managing Director of Cordia LLP. He is now enjoying semi-retirement, remaining active as MD of Foodservice with Buell Consulting and Chairman of Braehead Foods Ltd.

We are delighted to say he has continued with HIT as Honorary Secretary (since 1994) despite contemplating partial retirement.

Alan Halliday

Trustee, HIT Scotland

As a successful businessman, Alan has operated as Regional Director - Scotland of Coca-Cola Enterprises Ltd and Divisional Director at Brakes.

Alan Halliday joined HIT in 2001 as a Trustee. He provides HIT Scotland with a unique perspective in addition to his incredible support and insight into our Trust. Alan’s involvement has centred around supporting our Chairman, Chief Executive and fellow Trustees with his unrivalled expertise in sales and marketing.

Alan works with our Chief Executive specifically providing support, insight and advice on Sponsorship in addition to his general Trustee duties.

Marina Huggett

Trustee, HIT Scotland

Marina is a committed and passionate hospitality professional. She has run her own business, the Tourism Excellence Consultancy, for the past 20 years and is totally committed to quality and excellence and to the development of people who are the lifeblood of our industry. She is a Director of the Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards, and Executive Board Director of the Scottish Tourism Alliance as well as sitting on the Board of Visit Inverness Loch Ness. She is Chairperson of the Achnagairn Estate, an events venue near Inverness which has 62 bedrooms, Ballroom and a Restaurant Table Manors on the Estate. Highland Business Women’s Club awarded Marina their Ambassador Award in 2010.

Barry Laurie

Trustee, HIT Scotland

Barry Laurie, partner in French Duncan, began his hospitality industry obsession with a holiday job at the Crianlarich Hotel. Other jobs followed in the Kintail Lodge and Grant Arms , Grantown. Since then, he has never looked back and has remained actively engaged with the industry throughout his career though, as he points out, regretably no longer as a waiter!

He is now a tax partner with Scottish chartered accountants and business advisers, French Duncan. His firm is a prominent adviser to hospitality businesses in Scotland and has been a fervent supporter of HIT Scotland since its formation . He was privileged to take over the mantle as Treasurer from Primrose McCabe, our first incumbent.He Chairs the Finance Committee.

He founded the tax committee of HOSPA (formerly BAHA).

Ruaridh Macdonald

Trustee, HIT Scotland

Ruaridh Macdonald’s strong commercial understanding of our industry has been refined while overseeing the nationwide & international operations of Macdonald Hotels & Resorts as Deputy Chief Executive of the group. Having started his hotel career by opening the hugely popular Macdonald Aviemore Resort, he became a main board Director in 2009. The group, led by Ruaridh, is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2015.

An innovative team member and sounding board for the committee, Ruaridh’s insight has proved to be a valuable addition to our further progression and development.

Frances McMeeking

Trustee, HIT Scotland

As Head of Operations for Cordia, Frances McMeeking is responsible for the company’s corporate procurement as well as the day to day operation of all major care services provided to Glasgow City Council's Social Work Services

Frances first involvement with HIT began when she joined the Industry Dinner Committee before being invited onto the Board of Trustees in 2002. Currently Chair of the Truffle Club, Frances brings her own personality and vitality to what has become one of HIT’s best loved events. Frances is involved with a number of charities in Scotland and is an active supporter of The Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow.

Bernard Murphy

Trustee, HIT Scotland

Bernard Murphy is General Manager of The Gleneagles Hotel.  His previous experience includes roles at Compass Group, The Royal Bank of Scotland and Intercontinental Hotels.  Bernard is passionate about helping individuals fulfil their potential through both academic learning and workplace based experience.  Bernard holds an MBA from Strathclyde University Graduate School of Business and is a member of the Board of the International Leadership School.  He is also Chairman of Connoisseurs Scotland, a marketing consortium for the best of Scottish luxury hospitality businesses, and a member of Scotland’s 2020 Climate Change Group. 

Laurie Nicol

Trustee, HIT Scotland

After many years at Hilton, Laurie launched the opening of Grand Central Hotel in 2010, bringing it back to its former glory. She then went on to oversee the Scottish region for the Principal Hotel Company and has recently taken on a new challenge as Chief Operating Officer at De Vere.

Laurie is an energetic and passionate leader who loves the hospitality industry and thrives on building success.

Oli Norman

Trustee, HIT Scotland

Oli is a serial entrepreneur with businesses rooted in the hospitality industry. He started his first venture at 23, DADA, a marketing agency which broke the mould and represented many of the UK’s leading hospitality chains.

Today, Oli spends his time running itison, the market leading service he founded which speaks to a million people daily, and works with 2,500+ of the world’s leading local and national companies with offices throughout the UK.

Oli also owns a group of bars & restaurants in the Glasgow area, many of which are A-listed buildings he has restored and brought back to life with a team of 200 working across them.

Oli believes in the power of the big idea and commits a good chunk of time sitting with a number of charities. He was part of the team who brought George Clooney to Scotland in 2015 and is looking forward to working alongside the great team at HIT Scotland.  

Beverly Payne

Founding Trustee, HIT Scotland

Beverly Payne, Director at Accelerate Hospitality, is a proud founding member of HIT Scotland.

Passionate about talent and people development, believing this to be the only way to deliver successful hospitality, Beverly Chairs the Scholarship Committee.  She has been an integral part in the evolution of our prestigious HIT scholarship programme having immense impact on our scholar's careers and personal development.  Beverly is well respected in the Scottish hospitality industry and is a tremendous asset to HIT.   Beverly is also a Fellow of the Institute of Hospitality.

Paul J Wilson

Trustee, HIT Scotland

Paul Wilson is Managing Director of Xpress Recruitment, which impressively operates as the largest Scottish Hospitality & Retail Permanent Recruitment Company.

As well as being a Trustee, Paul has previously held the role of “Chair” of our prestigious HIT POETS lunch & HIT Industry Dinner. He is also a member of the Scottish Steering committee for Springboard UK Charity,  a founding member of the UK Buell Consulting Group and a member of the Institute of Hospitality.

David Cochrane

Chief Executive, HIT Scotland

David Cochrane is an energetic and inspirational member of the UK hospitality industry.  His enthusiasm has delivered travel & tourism to thousands with exciting Scottish events, exceptional hospitality support, and unrivaled growth in Scottish careers within hospitality.

David joined HIT Scotland in 2005 and is now leading the strategic direction of this Scottish based charity. Working with the Trustees he delivers added value to many initiatives in collaboration with other sectors in the Industry. He has been recognised with a Catey Award for his work in Education and Training. Amongst many Fellowships and Honorary Degrees held he led the successful Industry Expedition to the summit of Kilimanjaro.

Kirsty MacLeod

Operations Manager, HIT Scotland

Kirsty MacLeod joined HIT Scotland in 2011 to assist with the day to day management of the Trust.  Kirsty is a wonderful asset to our charity with great energy and superb organisational skills.  She oversees the management and development of HIT's Scholarship Programme and the vast majority of the charity's events. Her drive and attention to detail has been a major contributing factor to the professionalism of HIT Scotland's activities.

Alyson Gray

Office Manager, HIT Scotland

Alyson joined HIT Scotland in 2017 to help with the administration of the scholarships, events and general day to day management.  Alyson comes with 20 years of experience in sponsorship and event activation and marketing, and her cheerful personality and organisational skills will be a great asset to HIT.
